What is CBD?
CBD (short for cannabidiol) is one of hundreds of cannabinoids, terpenes and nutrients found in cannabis, and can be extracted from marijuana or hemp. Hemp has naturally high levels of CBD with naturally low levels of THC, which is the molecule that gets you “high”.
At Saint Jane, we only use US-grown, hemp-derived CBD in our products.
What’s the difference between marijuana and hemp?
Both are forms of the cannabis plant, but marijuana contains up to 35% THC while hemp has less than 0.3% THC (the chemical that gets you “high”). There are hundreds of terpenes (also known as essential oils) and cannabinoids and in cannabis plants, and THC and CBD are just two of them. But the main difference is that hemp naturally has high concentrations of CBD, which counteracts any effects of THC. That means it’s virtually impossible to feel any psychoactive effects from CBD. The U.S. farm bill legalized the cultivation of hemp and hemp products, and the TSA has said it is safe to fly with CBD products. Marijuana is not included as of yet.
What is “whole-plant” CBD vs CBD isolate?
Full-spectrum CBD is also known as “whole plant CBD”, meaning the entire plant is used. When using the entire plant, you get all of the incredible benefits from the hemp plant, including those hundreds of terpenes, cannabinoids, antioxidants, vitamins, and nutrients. Full spectrum has less than 0.3% THC if it's derived from hemp. Full-spectrum CBD is scientifically proven to provide more nutrients and benefits than CBD isolate, producing something known as “the entourage effect", which means the more of the cannabis plant you use, the greater the effects of CBD will be. CBD isolate is the “purest” form of CBD, meaning the CBD is extracted from the whole plant, so all that's left is the singular cannabidiol cannabinoid.
We supercritical, co2 extract our CBD, which is the cleanest way to protect the integrity and benefits of the plant (think of it like cold-pressed juice).
Will CBD get me "high"?
No! CBD is all about what you don’t feel, as opposed to THC which is all about what you do feel. CBD has no psychoactive effects on its own--you only get high when it is combined with THC.
What does CBD do for the skin?
CBD is known for being a true powerhouse botanical for a variety of needs. It's also more potent than vitamin C and vitamin E, and thanks to its tiny molecular structure, can easily penetrate the skin barrier for maximum effectiveness.
